We can no longer afford to steer away from our ocean plastic problem. The epidemic is rapidly rising and costing us over and over again more marine lives. The time has come to act. There are a few non-profit organizations that are influential in our quest for a better future:
Parley gives innovative, visionary and leading businesses a free chance to contribute and raise awareness about the growing issue of ocean pollution. They are also designing projects to solve the problem. The Oceans Parley Program focuses on three strategies: plastics avoidance, plastic waste interception and material redesign itself. Parley has been partners of several companies who created or promised that ocean plastics would be reused to produce new products (e.g. Adidas, Stella McCartney, and American Express) or to move away from virgin plastic.
The protection of the environment focuses on sustainable solutions for safe seas, ecosystems and coastal communities. Our projects encourage sustainable fishing, combat ocean acidification, and restoration of the Mexican Gulf. The Ocean Conservancy has hosted International Coastal Cleanup for over thirty years, bringing millions of volunteers together to collect waste from beaches worldwide.
Oceana was established in 2001 and is the world's largest advocacy organization. We save and rebuild oceans using tailored policy initiatives. We are undertaking coordinated campaigns to avoid the destruction of fish stocks, marine mammals and other damage to marine life caused by industrial fishing and contamination. Oceana is active in its efforts to reduce major sources of ocean emissions such as tar, mercury, aquaculture, and shipping.
The Nature Conservancy is one of the world's leading nature and human conservation organizations. There are 72 non-profit countries. The Nature Conservancy offers several opportunities to contribute to the cause through direct action such as voluntary service and education for the cleaning of beaches and the understanding of the benefits of a clean ocean.
Surfrider Foundation is a grassroots group that aims to protect and conserve the world's oceans. Surfrider Foundation We are focused on water quality, coastal ecosystems, access to the beach, protection of the beach and the surf spot. Surfrider has created a strong activist network that helps people connect and participate in efforts to preserve the land.
